5From a young age, he received gifted education as a therapist.

—First, could you tell us what inspired you to become an acupuncturist and therapist?
Oguchi: My family has been running a barbershop since my paternal grandfather's time. My father was a barber, and my mother was both a barber and a beautician, and also had a license in massage therapy. So, I grew up surrounded by the medical field. I'm the youngest of four siblings, and there's quite a bit of age gap between us, but many of my siblings have acupuncture and moxibustion qualifications. In particular, my eldest sister is an acupuncturist, and her husband is a doctor. He's Chinese, holds medical licenses in both China and Japan, is very skilled with needles, and, being a doctor, knows a lot about the human body. I learned a lot from my brother-in-law.
—Given that environment, did you naturally aspire to become a therapist?
Oguchi: That's right. When I was about five years old, I tried doing bone correction techniques by imitating my siblings, and everyone was surprised that I could do it. From there, my siblings got excited (laughs). They taught me all sorts of things, and when I was about 10 years old, I often went to my mother's treatment sessions. I played soccer from a young age, so I got injured often, but I could heal myself. My classmates also had the feeling that it was normal for me to heal them, and when I was in high school, I was in charge of training and treatment for the soccer team I belonged to. It was a newly established team, but we made it all the way to the Tokyo prefectural championships. So, when it came time to go to university, I decided to go to a place where I could get a qualification in that kind of treatment. It was a really natural progression.
—What did you study at university?
I studied specialized acupuncture and moxibustion at Teikyo Heisei University. I also wanted to learn as much as I could about the human body, so I gained experience in anatomy. In Japan, you can't perform dissections without a medical license, so I went to the University of Hawaii, where even people without a license can do dissections. I went to the University of Hawaii 5 or 6 times a year, but it was always a schedule of one night and three days. Even though I've been to Honolulu many times, I've never once gone into the ocean.
—Was it at that time that the "Oguchi-style beauty and body alignment" method, which is currently gaining widespread support, was created?
Oguchi: That's right. I was able to learn a lot of things that I wouldn't have known without actually seeing the body, such as how far I could insert the needles. It was thanks to what I learned at the University of Hawaii that I was able to develop a treatment that targeted "fascia," a point that hadn't received much attention in the industry at the time. It's a treatment that combines manipulating fascia with needles, which is painless and produces results in a short time. It was particularly well-regarded back then for its surprisingly good results in facial contouring.

--Actress Nanao recently posted about facial contouring on her Instagram, didn't she?
Oguchi: Yes. It's truly painless, and the results are immediately visible, so many actresses and models come to us. Recently, we established the "Oguchi-style Body Tech Osteopathy Association," and we also hold seminars to teach professionals the know-how of this "Oguchi-style beauty osteopathy" treatment, which focuses on facial contouring.
My mobile treatment service started in a room in an old apartment building.
—You started your own business right after graduating from university, right?
Oguchi: Yes. It all started in a dilapidated apartment room in Ikebukuro. At that time, I mainly provided mobile treatments. Gradually, my mobile treatments started going overseas. I also moved my base from Ikebukuro to Daikanyama, and now I have a salon in Omotesando.
—Besides actresses and models, you're supported by many executives and celebrities, including prominent business leaders and athletes representing Japan. What was the reason for that?
Oguchi: Back when we were in Ikebukuro, our patient base grew through referrals from other patients. Among them were some actors who are active on the front lines of the entertainment industry, and we received many referrals from them after we moved to Daikanyama. Now we even get referrals from overseas patients to patients in Japan.

—I hear that your overseas customers are also quite wealthy.
When I arrived at Oguchi Airport, several large cars were there to pick me up, and I was even escorted to the VIP lounge. It was a truly valuable experience.
—What do you think are the reasons for its popularity across national borders?
Oguchi: After receiving treatment, many people are surprised and say, "What is this?!" It's an experience unlike anything they've ever had before. For example, we often have people who have gone to the hospital because of back pain but haven't gotten better. Then, after receiving treatment at our clinic, they leave amazed by the results. What's more, the treatment isn't painful, and they recover quickly. Directors and doctors from various hospitals also come to us for treatment.
Thousands of inquiries received! How to receive treatment from Dr. Oguchi.
--I hear it's very difficult to get an appointment with Dr. Oguchi. I also heard that the treatment fee is 100,000 yen for 30 minutes.
For large-scale domestic bookings, that's the current setup. I appeared on the TV program "Another Sky" a while ago, and we received thousands of inquiries at that time. Thankfully, many people are on our waiting list for reservations.
—How can I receive treatment from Dr. Oguchi?
Oguchi: It's difficult to book an appointment for my own treatment right away, but for those who would like to experience the "Oguchi-style beauty bodywork," you will receive treatment from Mr. Ikeno, who works with me. Mr. Ikeno is also a main instructor at the association and is my "number one disciple."
—How did Professor Oguchi and Professor Ikeno meet?
Dr. Ikeno and I attended the same university, and we were introduced by a mutual mentor. Since then, I have been learning from Dr. Oguchi by assisting with his treatments and seminars. By chance, I took on a treatment overseas as a substitute for Dr. Oguchi, and since then I have had the opportunity to perform many treatments abroad.
—So, for Professor Oguchi, he's a trustworthy partner, right?
Oguchi: Yes, right now we can't go because of COVID-19, but if things were normal, Professor Ikeno would be traveling all over the world right now.
Ikeno: I used to travel to four or five countries a month, including Singapore and Thailand.
—You've been traveling abroad so much, are you sure your health is okay?
Oguchi is generally bad (laughs). But that's precisely why I understand the suffering of patients and want to help them get better!
The world will change with Oguchi-style beauty and body alignment!

—What is your greatest reward as a therapist, Dr. Oguchi?
Oguchi: It makes me so happy when I see people who couldn't get better anywhere else come to us, get dramatically better, and are incredibly pleased. This applies to both beauty treatments and physical ailments like back pain. I can confidently say that there are zero people who are unhappy with our treatments. That's because we've relentlessly honed our skills. And of course, we continue to evolve even now.
—Do you have any goals or dreams for the future?
Big mouth, world domination! Perhaps (laughs). It may sound like a joke, but I would love for our treatments to be available all over the world. We receive many inquiries about our techniques from overseas, and I hope that good things will spread far and wide, rather than keeping them to ourselves, so that everyone can become healthier.
Ikeno: I often have the opportunity to travel to Southeast Asia, and I really feel the gap between rich and poor. The young people from low-income backgrounds that I meet there are incredibly determined. If we can properly pass on our technology to them and help them succeed, it will raise the level of each region, improve their health, and make everyone happy. In that sense, it's "world domination."
Oguchi: I believe the day will surely come when "Oguchi-style beauty bodywork" will help solve the problem of poverty around the world. I will continue to hone my own skills, and the association will also continue to grow stronger.
